MVV Maastricht – FC Den Bosch

Like a chain was removed from their ankles. MVV-coach Capa resigned this week, after months of unrest. MVV was one of the outsiders for promotion this season but couldn’t meet the expectations, and the atmosphere around this team got worse every week for the past half year. Until this midweek, when things exploded. For that reason coach Meulenberg took over the job, and on Friday we saw a totally different MVV playing Dordrecht. The 1-0 victory was a deserved one, and although MVV didn’t play that impressive they were at least acting as a team – and exactly that failed with Capa in charge. People were believing again, the crowd was supporting their team, and they got rewarded for it. Throughout the second half MVV got only in trouble as Dordrecht was reduced to 10, and with a man down they suddenly played much better than before, but MVV ended their poor streak and may look up again. Den Bosch spoiled another two points. Their third consecutive homegame since the winter was once again not good enough for three points. They dominated their game with Veendam entirely, but especially at 2-1 they missed so many chances that you could wait for a punishment at the other side of the pitch. It’s obvious that Den Bosch got too little from this game with 2-2 at fulltime, but poor finishing and some unlucky moments in defence spoiled their chances. Den Bosch still is on a comfortable sixth position on the table, but the differences are extremely small and Monday’s opponent MVV is with an eleventh position just three points below them on the table. It’s important for Den Bosch not to lose here, but against an unleashed MVV it’s hard to say which way this match will develop. I again don’t burn my hands on a MVV-game. On home soil they’re capable of beating every opponent, and a struggling Den Bosch shouldn’t be too much for a fresh MVV. But then again, the stakes are high for both teams not to lose here, and -0,25 for 2.00 doesn’t make me really warm, it’s about right. I skip this game.
